17. Disterigma (Klotzsch) Niedenzu, Bot. Jahrb. 11: 209-210, 224. 1889. Disterigma is a genus of about 22 species centered in the Andes of Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. It is distributed from southern Mexico, south to Bolivia and east to Guyana. Two species are here recorded from the Guayana Highland. Disterigma was last monographed by A. C. Smith (1933). The genus is most closely related to Vaccinium from which it may be distinguished by its usually solitary, subsessile flowers with two large bracts immediately subtending the calyx.
