Species Description - In A. C. Smith's key (Smith, 1932, p 411), it is stated that the "filaments less than 1/3 as long as anthers" for T. cupatensis, but on p 422 the length of the filaments is given as "about 2.5 mm long," for the anther sacs "about 3 mm," and for the tubules "about 5 mm, " but the collecdon of Maguire et al 37012 from the summit of Cerro de la Neblina has filaments 4.5-5 mm long, and therefore nearly 1/2 as long as the anthers, with some of the anther sacs attaining 4 mm and the tubules 4.5 mm in length. In the collection of Maguire et al 42263, also from the sumit of Neblina, the filaments are similarly nearly 1/2 the length of the anthers, being 4 mm long, while the anther sacs are 2.5 mm long, and the tubules 4.5 mm long. In this collecdon also, the vestigial spurs are more pronounced. Also, it is to be noted that in Maguire et al 29567 from Cerro Duida the filaments are 3.5-4 mm long, while the total anther length is 7.5 mm, so that the filaments are over 1/2 the length of the anther. The key character regarding the relative length of filament and anther, therefore, breaks down in the above coUections, and must be eliminated from the key.
