Discussion:

14. Psammisia Klotzsch, Linnaea 24: 42. 1851. Psammisia contains about 50 species, 34 of which are found in Colombia. Asa whole the genus is distributed from Costa Rica, south to Bolivia, and east to Guyana and Trinidad. Three species are present in the Guayana Highland region. Psammisia is most closely related to another Andean genus Macleania (Mexico-Bolivia, Venezuelan Andes) by virtue of simUar stamen types. Psammisia is also related to the Guayana endemic Mycerinus, with which it shares similar stamen and poUen morphologies.
