Discussion:
The genus Cavendishia is distributed from southern Mexico, south through Central America to northern Bolivia, and east to Surinam. About 140 species are currently recognized in the genus, 70% of which are found in Colombia. Four species are found in Guayana, two of which are here described as new. The genus was last monographed in its entirety by A. C. Smith (1932). Cavendishia is most closely related to Thibaudia, another Andean genus with center of distribution in Colombia.
