Discussion:
Type. VENEZUELAN-BRAZILIAN FRONTIER. Amazonas: Cerro de la Neblina, frequent on open slopes near the wall base of Pico Phelps, 2500-2800 m alt, 2 Dec 1965, rounded shrub to 1 m high, flowers rose-colored, Maguire & Pires 60477 (holotype NY, isotype VEN). Befaria neblinensis is a hispid-subsetose microphyllous shrub related to B. hispida. Both display glandular hispid hairs, elongate racemose inflorescences, and leaf margins which bear glandular cilia. Befaria neblinensis is at once distinguished from B. hispida by its shorter petals and floral bracts which are similar to the size of stem leaves, in contrast to B. hispida which has longer petals, and floral bracts which are much smaller than the stem leaves.
