Description:

Species Description - Rachis (3-)5-8(-15) cm long, usually with scattered to dense red, sessHe or short clavate glands. Floral bracts oblong, oblanceolate, apically rounded or acute, never emarginate, 6-14(-20.5) mm long. Pedicels (7-)10-21(-27) mm long, usually provided with glands as rachis. Corolla viscid, (19-)26-37(-41) mm long, distal portion often distinctly curved upwards, dark reddish-maroon. Stamens 19.5-34.5 mm long; filaments alternately either 2.5-6 mm or 6-12 mm long; anthers either 14.5-25 mm or 17-32 mm long. Style 22-40 mm long. Phenology: Flowering April-June.

Distribution and Ecology - Distribution: Costa Rica; endemic to the CordUlera Central and the Cordillera de Talamanca; 1400-2800 m elevation. Fig. 40.
