Description:
Species Description - Epiphytic shrub; stem thin, elongate, terete, glabrous; twigs short-puberulent. Leaves subcoriaceous, rounded-elliptic or broadly subovate-elliptic, (1.5-)2.8-3.7 x 2.3-3 cm, base rounded or slightly cordate, apex rounded or nearly so, margin entire; obscurely 3-5-plinerved from the base, midrib and lateral nerves slightly raised beneath, reticulate veinlets obscure; petiole ca. 2 mm long. Inflorescence axillary, solitary; floral bract not seen; pedicel terete, striate, 5-9 mm long, glabrous; bracteoles nearly basal or located just below the middle of the pedicel, aristate, ca. 0.3 mm long. Flowers 4-merous, with calyx densely grayish pilose; hypanthium subglobose, abruptly contracted at apex, ca. 2 mm diam.; limb campanulate; lobes deltate, acute, ca. 0.4 mm long; sinuses rounded; corolla membranous, subcylindric, somewhat inflated at the middle, 3-3.5 mm long and ca. 1.5 mm diam., short-pubescent, "rosaceous,"; stamens 4, ca. 2.8 mm long; filaments ca. 1.6 mm long, subglabrous; anthers ca. 1.2 mm long; thecae smooth, ca. 0.6 mm long; tubules ca. 0.6 mm long; style filiform, ca. 3 mm long, glabrous. Berry spherical, ca. 3.5 mm diam., pilose.
Distribution and Ecology - Costa Rica, Colombia, Ecuador, and Guyana; rainforest and cloud forest at 150-900 m altitude. Cultivated NY.
