Taxonomic notes: nom. nud, pro syn. Although Klotzsch referred to Lemaire, he surely meant M. cordata Lem. (1848: 312) since the epithet "colorata" never appeared in the protologue. The name Macleania colorata was first placed in the synonymy of M. insignis by Smith (1932: 369).
