Description:

Description: Non-tuberous epiphyte (fide label data), trailing and rooting at the nodes; stem terete, thin, to 2 mm diam., glabrous, blackish-brown when dry. Leaves succulent and lenticular when fresh (fide label data), orbicular, 1.4-2.1 x 1.5-2.3 cm, base rounded or slightly obtuse, apex rounded, margin thickened when dry; obscurely 5-plinerved from the base, midrib and lateral nerves weakly raised on both surfaces when dry, although mostly obscure especially beneath, reticulate veinlets obscure, glabrous but with minute, reddish, glandular fimbriae beneath in tiny punctae; petiole terete, rugose, 1-2 mm long and ca. 1.5 mm diam., puberulent. Inflorescence axillary, the flowers solitary; floral bract minute, ovate, ca. 1 mm long; pedicel terete, 2.5-4.5 mm long, short-pilose and also with a few grandular fimbriae at the distal tip; bracteoles not seen. Flowers with calyx ca. 3.5 mm long, short, white pilose; hypanthium obconic, bluntly 5-angled, ca. 1.3-1.5 mm long and ca. 2 mm diam. at apex, with scattered glandular fimbriae at base; limb spreading, dissected nearly to base, 2-3 mm long; lobes narrowly triangular to linear-subulate, ca. 2.2 x 0.8 mm; sinuses obtuse; corolla cylindric, ca. 19 mm long and 4 mm diam., short-pilose, scarlet (fide label data), the lobes slightly spreading at anthesis, oblong, obtuse, ca. 3 mm long; stamen equal, ca. 15 mm long; filaments connate at very base, ca. 1.5 mm long, glabrous; anthers 14-15 mm long; thecae smooth, ca. 2 mm long; tubules 12-13 mm long, the tips truncate with strictly terminal, slightly flaring pores; style exserted, ca. 19 mm long, glabrous; nectariferous disc annular-pulvinate, strongly elevated, glabrous. Berry not seen.

Distribution: Endemic to Ecuador and known only from the type collection from forest at 1600 m altitude.

Type: Ecuador. Zamora-Chinchipe: 15 km W of Zamora, 1600 m, 18 Dec 1975 (fl), Madison 2491 (holotype: SEL, photo NY neg. 9428).
