Description:
Description: Epiphytic shrubs; stems terete, glabrous; twigs subterete, striate to ribbed, densely whitish puberulent with eglandular hairs, becoming glabrescent. Leaves congested, succulent, elliptic, (1.1-)1.5-3.0 x 1-2 cm, base and apex rounded, margin thickened and slightly recurved, lamina minutely puberulent or glabrate beneath with eglandular and glandular hairs; 3-5-plinerved from base, midrib slightly impressed above and raised beneath, lateral nerves and tertiary veinlets obscure; petiole subterete, 1-2 mm long, glabrate. Inflorescences axillary, flowers solitary, not exceeding the subtending leaves; floral bract 1, deltate, acute, ca. 0.5 mm long, ciliate; pedicel subterete, 2.5-3.5 mm long, white-hispidulous with eglandular hairs 0.3-0.6 mm long and also with few, scattered, glandular hairs; bracteoles 2, basal, opposite, narrowly triangular, acuminate, ca. 0.6 mm long, hispidulous. Flowers 5-merous, diplostemonous; calyx 3-4 mm long, white-hispidulous with eglandular hairs; tube spherical-cupuliform, ca. 1.5-2 mm long; limb campanulate-spreading, ca. 1.5 mm long; lobes elongate-triangular, long-acuminate, ca. 1.2-1.5 mm long; sinuses obtuse or rounded; corolla campanulate, ca. 4.5-5.5 mm long and 4 mm diam. at apex, yellow although sometimes tinged with pink if exposed to sun, sparsely puberulent without with eglandular hairs, the lobes erect, broadly ovate-deltate, acute, ca. 0.5 mm long; stamens 10, alternately slightly unequal in length, 3.7-4 mm long; filaments ca. 1.3-1.5 mm long, glabrous; anthers 2.7-3 mm long; thecae 1-1.2 mm long, the base straight, with minute basal appendage; tubules ca. 1.6-1.8 mm long, dehiscing by oblique pores ca. 0.2 mm long; style about equaling corolla. Berry unknown.
Type: Ecuador. Cañar: valley of Río de Cañar, near Rosario, 1035 m, 6–10 September 1944 (fl), Prieto CP-16 [holotype US! (photo NY neg. 11124); isotypes F!, NY! (photo NY neg. 10126)].
Distribution: Endemic to Ecuador; forest, at 1035 m.
