Description:
Description: Epiphytic shrub; stem terete, striate, glabrous; twigs subterete to bluntly angled, striate, slender, densely short-pilose to puberulous with pale spreading hairs to 0.2 mm long, glabrate. Leaves lanceolate to elliptic-lanceolate, 4-6 x 1.2-1.8 cm, base cuneate to attenuate, apex obtusely short-acuminate, margin entire and narrowly revolute, lamina sparsely short-pilose on both surfaces, persisting especially along the nerves; obscurely 3-5-plinerved, midrib slightly impressed above and raised beneath, lateral nerves plane to slightly impressed above but obscure on both surfaces; petiole subterete, flattened above, rugose, 2-3 mm long, densely short-pilose with white hairs, glabrate. Inflorescence axillary, racemose, 3-4-flowered; rachis subterete, striate or ribbed, ca. 2 cm long and 1 mm diam., densely short-pilose; floral bract lanceolate, 4-5 x ca. 2 mm, weakly short-pilose dorsally, marginally glandular-fimbriate; pedicel subterete, striate, ribbed, 13-15 mm long, densely short-pilose with hairs to 0.4 mm long; bracteoles located near or just below the middle, lanceolate, long-acuminate to aristate, ca. 6 mm long, weakly short-pilose dorsally, marginally weakly glandular-fimbriate. Flowers with calyx ca. 27 mm long; hypanthium obconical, ribbed, 3-4 mm long and 3 mm diam. at apex, densely short-pilose; limb spreading, 20-25 mm long; lobes 4, lanceolate-deltate, acuminate, reticulate-veined, 19-24 x 10-12 mm, sparsely short-pilose at base and margins; corolla 50-52 mm long and 6-10 mm diam. at base, densely short-pilose, the lobes 4, lanceolate, long-acuminate, 20-21 x 3-4 mm; stamen 8, nearly as long as corolla, alternately unequal, ca. 48 mm and 50 mm long; filaments connate into a tube ca. 7-9 mm long, sparsely pilose distally at margins; thecae much shorter than the tubules, 7-8 mm long, the base incurved; tubules 37-38 mm long, dehiscing by oblique, slightly flaring pores, 0.5 mm long; style as long as corolla. Berry not seen.
Distribution: Known only from the type collection made in Colombia, Ecuador, or Peru in forest at 1550 m altitude.
Type: Colombia, Ecuador or possibly Peru: Rosario, in woods, 1550 m, Lobb 79 (holotype, K-Herb. Hook., photo NY neg. 13010).
