Description:

shrubs, 20-25 cm. tall; in large clones. Fruits abundant, glossy black (no bloom), 9-10 mm. dia., slightly depressed, juicy and sweet (but less so than adjacent Vaccinium myrsinities); stems 2--2.5 d. tall. forming rhizomatous clones 2--13 m. dia. Plants had been reported as Vaccinium tenellum. Phenology of specimen: Fruit.
Habitat:

Open longleaf pine (Pinus palustris) flatwoods. Common.
