Location:

Costa Rica. Along the Interamerican Highway near El Trinidad and Km 72 (about 20 km. southeast from Empalme). San Jose and Cartago Provinces. Alt. 2600 - 2800 m. (8530 - 9186 ft.)

Description:

Growing out of thicket at edge of road. Flower bracts pink. Pedicels and ovary pink. Corolla bright pink-red with a white apex. Fruits pink becoming pale green.

Habitat:

Steep slopes with forest remnants, open areas with bog-like vegetation, and secondary growth.
