Description:

Shrub 2 m tall, largest stem 4.5 cm diam; bark brown, shallow fissured, not peeling. Phenology of specimen: Fruit.
Habitat:

Shrub forest dominated by Vaccinium corymbosum, Rhododendron periclymenoides, Rhododendron viscosum, Clethra alnifolia and Lyonia ligustrina. This shrub forest transitions from a freshwater marsh to a beech-maple mesic forest dominated by Quercus velutina, Fagus grandifolia, Betula lenta, Acer rubrum.
