Description:
Description: Shrub (epiphytic ?); stem terete to subterete and bluntly angled; twigs subterete, bluntly angled, glabrous. Leaves subcoriaceous, ovate to elliptic-ovate, 4-9 x 1.2-2.3 cm, base cuneate to subtruncate or rounded, apex elongate, caudate-acuminate, mucronate, the caudex to 2.5 cm long, margin revolute at base, glabrous but deciduously glandular-fimbriate beneath; 3-5-plinerved from near base, midrib strongly impressed above and raised beneath, lateral nerves impressed above and obscurely raised beneath, reticulate veinlets slightly impressed above and raised beneath; petiole subterete, rugose, to 3 mm long, glabrous. Inflorescence axillary, racemose, 8-12-flowered; rachis thin, complanate and bluntly angled, usually 1-1.5 cm long, glabrous; floral bract caducous, ovate-subulate, ca. 1.3-1.5 mm long, glabrous; pedicel subterete, 1-1.8 cm long, glabrous but with few scattered glandular fimbriae distally; bracteoles located at or just above the middle, opposite to subopposite, similar to floral bract. Flowers 4-5-merous, with calyx ca. 2.5-3.2 mm long, glabrous; hypanthium obconic-campanulate, 1.8-2.5 mm long; limb campanulate, spreading, ca. 0.5-1.2 mm long; lobes apiculate, acute, to 0.5 mm long; corolla subcylindric, 6-7 mm long and 2 mm diam., glabrous, the lobes 1-2.5 mm long; stamen (6-)8-10, equal, ca. 5-5.2 mm long; filaments distinct, ca. 2-2.5 mm long, margin densely short, whitish pilose; anthers ca. 3.5-4 mm long; thecae ca. 2 mmlong; tubules subrigid, ca. 2 mm long, dehiscing through clefts 0.5-1 mm long; style exserted, 7-9 mm long, glabrous; nectariferous disc annular, low, or rarely conical-elevate, glabrous. Berry not seen.
Distribution: Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru; montane cloud forest, at 2550 m altitude.
Type: Peru. Puno: Prov. Carabaya, Tatanara, Aug 1854 (fl), Lechler 2614 (holotype, B?, photo F neg. 28923; lectotype, designated by Luteyn (1996), NY fragment ex B; isolectotypes, G, K, P, W, photo K type NY neg. 13032; additional fragments at F, L, US).
