Distribution and Ecology - Leucothoe is a genus of about 50 species distributed in North and South America, Japan, the Himalayas, and in southeastern Asia. Its center of distribu tion is South America where about 35 species occur (75% of these in southeastern Brazil). One species has been described from and is endemic to the Guayana Highland of Venezuela.
