Ledothamnus guyanensis is a highly variable species. The size of leaves, petals, and sepals, and the pubescence of leaves are subject to considerable variation. The species is held together and is characterized by its combination of reddishcolored petals which are broadest at the apex, and by unbranched, acicular or setose (sometimes glandular) hairs along the leaves, pedicels and sepals. The division of the species into two subspecies is based upon the presence or absence of gland-tipped setae along the uppermost leaves, sepals and usuahy pedicels.
