Description:
Species Description - Epiphytic shrub; stem subterete, bluntly angled or complanate, striate, nitid, glabrous twigs bluntly complanate, minutely striate, nitid, glabrous, glaucous. Leaves coriaceous, flat to slightly bullate, ovate to elliptic-ovate, (5.5-)11-16(-23.5) x (2-)4.5-5.5(-10) cm, base rounded to obtuse, rarely cuneate and short-attenuate, apex acuminate, margin slightly revolute, glabrous on both surfaces or short-pilose along proximal 1-2 cm of midrib above, minutely glandular-fimbriate beneath; 5(-7)-plinerved from the base or inner lateral nerves joined with midrib in proximal 2 cm, midrib impressed, sometimes thickened proximally above, conspicuously raised beneath, lateral nerves impressed above except outer pair which is raised and inconspicuous, conspicuously raised in proximal 1/2--3/4 beneath but less prominently raised distally, reticulate veinlets impressed or raised, conspicuous above, plane to slightly raised beneath; petiole ribbed, rugose, 5-10 mm long, glabrous or puberulent. Inflorescence solitary, axillary, racemose, rarely once-branched near the base, (7-)25-35-flowered; rachis subterete, bluntly angled, striate, (4-)6-12.5 cm long, nitid, glabrous, surrounded at base by a series of few, elliptic, obtuse to rounded, glabrous bracts to 2 mm long; floral bract caducous, oblong-ovate, rounded, ca. 4 x 3 mm; pedicel subterete, ribbed, 7-11 mm long, glabrous, sometimes glandular-fimbriate along length or with a thick, coarse, deciduous ring of glandular fimbriae at the distal tip; bracteoles basal to located just below middle of pedicel, ovate, acute, 0.2-0.3 mm long, margin entirely or only the distal 3/4 glandular-callose. Flowers with calyx glabrous, 3-5 mm long; hypanthium cylindric or bluntly 5-angled, base rounded or apophysate with undulate margin, 1-1.5 mm long; limb campanulate, 1.5-3.5 mm long; lobes apiculate and 0.3-0.4 mm long or deltate, acute and to 1 mm long, each margin narrowly glandular callose-thickened and sometimes with glandular fimbriae in sinuses, connivent after anthesis; sinuses obtuse, broadly rounded, or flat; corolla cylindric-urceolate, 7-9 mm long and 3-4 mm diam., glabrous, white at base and purple at apex to pink (fide label), the lobes strongly reflexed, ovate, acute, ca. 1 mm long, white (fide label); stamen equal with each other, ca. 7 mm long overall; filaments alternately 2 mm and 3 mm long, glabrous; anthers alternately ca. 6.3 mm and 4.5 mm long; thecae ca. 1.8-2.2 mm long; tubules alternately ca. 4.5 mm and 2.7 mm long, dehiscing by clefts ca. 1.5 mm long; style 9.5-13 mm long, glabrous. Berry not seen.
Distribution and Ecology - S Colombia and N Ecuador; premontane rainforest to lower montane rainforest at 600-2430 m altitude.
