Discussion:

Type. Mexico. Oaxaca: Dist. Mixe, SE shoulder of Cerro Zempoaltépetl, rich, wet pine-oak cloud forest below Patio de Arena, 8200' [2500 m], 22 Sep 1970, Mickel 4908 (NY!; isotypes MEXU!, UC!). This species is close to E. lingua (Raddi) Brackenridge of South America but in that species the blade is more slender and the rhizome scales are not bicolorous to black. Elaphoglossum mcvaughii Mickel is of the same alliance but has somewhat bicolorous rhizome scales and a more western range.
