Description:

Species Description - Rhizome short-creeping, to 3 mm diam.; rhizome scales lanceolate to ovate, light brown, not resinous, to 3 mm long, entire; phyllopodia very short, indistinct; fronds clumped, to 60 cm long, 2.2-4.0 cm wide; stipe nearly lacking, only 1-2 cm long, with minute, stellate, appressed hairs, blade narrowly elliptic, very thin, apex acuminate, base narrowly cuneate, long-decurrent nearly to the rhizome; veins evident, free, simple or once-forked, but vein tips expanded laterally, sometimes uniting; hydathodes lacking; blade scales lacking but minute, stellate, reddish, resinous hairs present, mostly on the lower surface; fertile fronds unknown.

Discussion:

Type. Mexico. Oaxaca: Dist. Ixtlán, 29 km S of Valle Nacional, 80 km N of Ixtlán de Juárez, trail E of Rte 175 at Campamento Vista Hermosa toward Ladú, 1 hour hike down to Río de la Trucha, 1500-2000' [460-610 m], Mickel 6417 (NY!; isotypes ENCB!, NY!, UC!). Elaphoglossum decursivum closely resembles E. lonchophyllum in its slender rhizome, the minute stellate hairs on stipe and blade, the thin blade, and the vein tips laterally extended and sometimes uniting, but it is distinct in the lack of resinous rhizome scales and the virtually sessile fronds.
