Modern placement in <i>Tylopilus<\/i> or in <i>Leccinum<\/i> has been equivocal (Singer 1947, 1973, 1986; Smith &amp; Thiers 1971), because emphasis was given to either stipe ornamentation (Singer) or spore color (Smith &amp; Thiers).<\/p>\n<p class=\"ex1\">Molecular phylogenetic inference provides a new perspective on placement of <i>B. exmius<\/i> in the Boletaceae well away from either <i>Leccinum<\/i> or <i>Tylopilus<\/i>. The partial phylogram is based on a 2-gene (nuc-LSU, tef1) dataset (engineered by <b>M. Nuhn<\/b>). The tree topology corresponds to the optimal maximum likelihood tree calculated by RAxML. Support values <u>&gt;<\/u> 50% bootstrap and 0.95 posterior probability are shown. Thus, two unnamed clades (one from Zambia, one from Thailand), plus <a href=\"https:\/\/sweetgum.nybg.org\/science\/projects\/boletineae\/taxon-details?irn=479244\"><i>Sutorius eximius<\/i><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/sweetgum.nybg.org\/science\/projects\/boletineae\/taxon-details?irn=479247\"><i>S. australiensis<\/i><\/a> are currently recognized in the genus <a href=\"https:\/\/sweetgum.nybg.org\/science\/projects\/boletineae\/taxon-details?irn=479180\"><i>Sutorius<\/i><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ex5\"><b>Peck, C.H.<\/b> 1887.
