Notes
Entered Mar 2025. Because of ongoing construction and renovation of Barnard\'s science building, the collectdion is currently stored with the Barnard Archives, part of Columbia University Libraries.. From Barnard's founding, it aimed to offer students training in botany as part of an overall degree-earning curriculum at Columbia or as a special subject of study that did not lead to a degree. This woman''s college was founded one year earlier than the New York Botanical Garden. None of the holdings are directly from Columbia's herbarium, which was transferred to NYBG. Rather, it appears that many active botanists of the day donated specimens to ensure that young women studying botany at the time could study in "a herbarium of her own."
