  • Quarantine Requirements

Destructive Insects & Pests Act, 1914 (Act 2 of 1914)\" in India is responsible for enforcing quarantine regulatory measures. This Act aims to prevent the introduction of any insect, fungus, or other pest that could harm crops. Currently, the import of agricultural products is controlled by the Plant Quarantine (Regulation of Import into India) Order, 2003, which is issued under the Destructive Insects & Pests Act, 1914. This order includes the provisions from the New Policy on Seed Development, 1988. With the rise of globalization and liberalization in international plant trade due to the Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Agreement under WTO, the importance of Plant Quarantine has grown. The certification of phytosanitary conditions for exported agricultural products also follows the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC), 1951.
