There are sections in the herbarium with independent specimen numbering, denoted by suffixes added to the main acronym: BLS M – theleomorphic fungi with macroscopic fructifications; BLS F – fungi with microscopic fructifications; BLS L – lichenized fungi; BLS A – algae, BLS B – bryophytes. Vascular plants are documented under acronym BLS without a suffix. The herbarium includes one of the most representative collection of higher fungi (Ascomycota and Basidiomycota) from Białowieża Primeval Forest. The data about fungi with macroscopic fructifications are included in GBIF system.
