    Somaliland is considered by the United Nations to be part of Somalia but it declared its independence in 1991 and has functioned separately since that time. HARG was started in 2016 to be a primary resource for research and education about Somaliland’s plants, fungi and plants. At present it houses only vascular plants. There is NO regular mail service in Somaliland; one can send items via DHL but it is expensive. Neither the herbarium nor the university can pay for DHL service. The herbarium does not as yet have an accumulation of specimens for exchange.
