    MBGH is located at Malabar Botanical Garden and Institute for Plant Sciences, Kozhikode, Kerala, India. The garden has about 20 ha area with 5 ha wetland. This herbarium posses herbarium material of local flora (Kerala) especially of the Western Ghats area and special attention is given to the aquatic angiosperms, local Bryophytes and Pteridophytes. The authentic specimens of the books 'Eriocaulaceae in India' (R. Ansari), 'Nymphaeceae in India' (R. Ansari), 'Ferns and Fern allies of Kerala' (P.V. Madhusoodanan) etc. are deposited in this herbarium. Type specimens of few new species published by scientists in this institute and from other institutions in Kerala are also deposited. This is the only herbarium in south India where specimens of lower groups of plants are preserved.
