  • Notes

Entered Dec 2017. The Herbarium SLUI has a collection of plants that have been collected since 1988 in the State of Maranhão. Since 2009, the Herbarium has been registered in the Brazilian Herbarium Network of the Brazilian Botanic Society (SBB) as Herbarium Rosa Mochel (SLUI), and in 2010 it joined the INCT - Virtual Herbarium Institute of Flora and Fungi of Brazil. With the support of INCT - Virtual Herbarium of Flora and Fungi of Brazil and FAPEMA, SLUI began the process of computerizing the data of the collection, and its inclusion in the speciesLink network, of the Reference Center on Environmental Information. In 2017 the scanning of the collection with image capture began. Currently 131 exsicatas (about 2% of the collection) are available online on the speciesLink network. The SLUI collection has about 5,500 samples of botanical material, mainly exsicates, predominating the angiosperms, with 117 families represented. The collection also has 50 pteridophytes, 26 bryophytes, 24 macroscopic algae and two gymnosperms. In addition to the collection of exsicatas, a xiloteca (174 specimens), a carpoteca (50 specimens), a collection of seeds (35 samples) and a small collection of macroscopic fungi (10 samples) are available. The collections represent mainly the vegetation of the state: Amazonian forest; Thick; The majority of samples come from the State of Maranhão (70%), although there is a collection of flora from 15 states in Brazil, mainly from donations. The main families represented are Fabaceae (616 records), Malvaceae (420), Cyperaceae (340), Malpighiaceae (290) and Asteraceae (270).
