Notes
Entered Apr 2011. The herbarium is currently arranged according to Bentham & Hooker's system, although a rearrangement based on APG-III has been initiated. Arya Vaidya Sala, Kottakkal has been maintaining a demonstration Garden of 8 acres with a live collection of more than thousand species of medicinal plants. These plants are collected from different parts of India, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Malaysia, Nepal and other neighbouring countries. Rare species like Utleria salicifolia, Janakiya arayalpatra, Decalepis hamiltonii, Rauvolfia serpentina, Embelia ribes, Coscinium fenestratum etc. are conserved here. The main objective of this garden is to create awareness among the public on our medicinal plant wealth and the need for conserving the floristic diversity.
