    The Herbarium of Lubumbashi after the period of political instability in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (1990-1991), was vandalized and almost abandoned. Many specimens were destroyed and some, fortunalely were preserved somehow and the collection were again reestablished. since the revival of mining activities (from 2000 to date) in the Katanga region, many collaborations in the flora area were establised between Belgian universities and the University of Lubumbashi and this allowed researchers to use again the herbarium and to increase it collection. To date collaboration is been reinforced with the Meise Botanical Garden (BR) for training in plant taxonomy, and a team of devoted researchers is being constituted.
