Title
Anther dehiscence poricidal
-
Definition
Anthers that open (dehisce) and release pollen via a terminal pore.
-
Notes
In the New World Lecytidaceae, only species of Gustavia have poricidal anthers. Poricidal anthers are associated with buzz pollination by bees. Some species of the closely related Scytopetalaceae of the Old World also have poricidal anthers. Scytopetalaceae are sister to the Lecythidaceae (Mori et al., 2007).
