In New World Lecythidaceae, this refers to a well-differentiated style that slants toward the adaxial side of the flower and this occurs only in species with zygomorphic flowers. An oblique style bends toward the side opposite the ligule or the side of the flower that is open for entry by pollinators. Oblique styles are usually long enough to go just past the staminal ring thereby causing incoming pollinators to touch the stigma on their way into the flower but not on their way out, thereby promoting cross pollination.
