Corrugate

  • Title

    Corrugate

  • Definition

Having the suface of an organ wrinkled or wavy.

  • Notes

In the Lecythidaceae, some of the species in the Lecythis corrugata group have corrugate hypanthia. Other species in this section have more tuberculate hypanthia. The wrinkles tend to disappear as the fruits mature but some of the species retain at least some sign of the wrinkles in mature fruits. We consider hypanthia or fruits with smooth, horizontally oriented wrinkles to be corrugate (e.g., Lecythis corrugata) and those that are sharp and more vertically oriented tuberculate (e.g., L. idatimon).
