Androecial hood: Bertholletia-type

  • Title

    Androecial hood: Bertholletia-type

  • Definition

The Bertholletia-type of androecial hood has appendages that are swept back into the interior of the hood which are called vestigial stamens; these appendages do not have anthers.

  • Notes

This type of hood is shared by most species of Lecythis which we think differs from the Lecythis tuyrana-type by not having a thicked part at the apex. The difference between these two types needs to be confirmed with further study.
