Definition
An ovule that departs from the middle part of the placenta at an angle less than 90 degrees as seen in a longitudinal section. The angle is the upper angle of a line drawn through the ovules and intersecting with the vertical axis of the ovary as seen in longitudinal section.

Notes
Ovule orientation has to take into consideration that the ovules are constrained by the type of placenta and the size and orientation of the locules. For example, an arched placentat may have somewhat erect ovules at the rounded apex oblique ovules in the middle of the placenta. In addition, short, horizontally oriented locules may force the ovules into horizontal orientation.
