Septal unit arrowhead-shaped

  • Title

    Septal unit arrowhead-shaped

  • Definition

A triangular septal unit head that is extended from each side of the base of the septal head proper to form what looks like an arrowhead when viewed in a cross-section of the ovary at slightly below the apex of the placenta.

  • Notes

A cross-section needs to be made through the middle of the ovary at a point where the placenta is fully developed to see this character state. An arrowhead-shaped septal unit differs from the other types in that the base of the placenta is extended beyond each side of the base of the head of the septal unit, i.e., it is neither tapered to the septal base as in spear-shaped , rounded at the apex as in an anchor-shaped, or truncate at the apex as in double bit axe-shaped septal units.
