Undulation (adj. = undulate)

  • Title

    Undulation (adj. = undulate)

  • Definition

Wavy, usually referring to the margin of a structure such as a leaf.

  • Notes

In neotropical Lecythidaceae, this term is used to describe the margins of the leaves of some species (e.g., Lecythis ampla and Lecythis mesophylla) or the margin of the summit of the ovary (Lecythis holcogyne) and the summit of fruits (L. parvifructa and L. gracieana). We are not sure that the undulations on the summits of ovaries and fruits are of taxonomic significance but they are frequently encountered.
