Epicotyl
-
Title
Epicotyl
-
Definition
That part of the main axis of an embryo or the young stem of a seedling located above the point of attachment of the cotyledons. The epicotyl gives rise to the leaves, the first of which are called eophylls.
-
Notes
The macropodial embryos of species of the genera Bertholletia, Corythophora, Eschweilera, Grias, Lecythis are nondescript areas on a axis that are not differeniated (= macropodial embryos) so it is difficult to determine where a epicotyl begins or ends.
