Ovule orientation

  • Title

    Ovule orientation

  • Definition

The relationship between the direction that an ovule departs from the middle of the placenta in relation to the long axis of the ovary (equals the orientation of the lower/upper septum), as seen in a medial longitudinal section.

  • Notes

Ovule orientation must be carefully described because ovules that arise from a placenta that arches downward from the lower/upper septum may have different orientations depending on the position they arise from the placenta, e.g., they may be obliquely upward and outward oriented on the upper part and horizontally oriented a the middle of the placenta.
