  In the Lecythidaceae, the venation hierarchy iin descending order of most salient is the midrib (first), secondary veins (second, also called lateral veins), tertiary veins (third), quarternary veins (fourth), quinary veins (fifth), senary (sixth). In this family these ordinal numbers are used mostly for the venation of leaves and sometimes for the venation seeds. All orders of venation are considered as higher order veins.
