Description: Adaxial (top) and abaxial surfaces (bottom) of the imparipinnate leaves of Robinia pseudoacacia based on an unvouchered sapling growning at the Metro-North's Botanical Garden train station, Bronx, New York. Imparipinnate and odd pinnate have the same definitions. Note that most of the leaflets are clearly opposite while some of them are subopposite and that the leaflets are discolor with the adaxial surfaces darker green than the abaxial ones .

Definition
In a pinnately compound leaf, the leaflets at inserted along the rachis. Note that pinnately compound leaves with lateral leaflets can be either imparipinnate ( = odd pinnate) or paripinnate (= even pinnate) depending on if there is a terminal or there is not a terminal leaflet, respectively.
