Notes
Zygomorphic-flowered Lecythidaceae are only found in the Neotropics where there are two different kinds of zygomorphic flowers, in most the staminal ring is expanded from one side of a staminal ring which is a donut-shaped ring that surrounds the outer part of the summit of the ovary. The fertile stamens arise from the staminal ring. In the other type, found only in species of Cariniana, the stamens arise from the inside of a thin staminal tube. In both types of zygomorphic-flowered Lecythidaceae, the prolongation or expansion of the androecium is thought to arise from its abaxial side (Tsou & Mori, 2008).
