Striation

  • Title

    Striation

  • Definition

A fine longitudinal line, ridge, or groove.

  • Notes

In the Lecythidaceae, some species have lines that run the length of the leaf which represent the creases caused by the folding of the leaf in bud. The most obvious striations are found in the leaves of Lecythis corrugata subsp. corrugata and less obvious striations are features of the leaves of Couratari stellata and its relatives C. macrosperma and C. scottmorii and Eschweilera grandiflora.
