Androecium actinomorphic
-
Title
Androecium actinomorphic
-
Definition
Capable of being divided in more than one plane into two or more equal halves; usually, but not always, used to describe flowers.
-
Notes
Symmetry of Lecythidaceae is based on the androecium. Note that a species with an actinomorphic androecium sometimes appears slightly zygomorphic but an actinomorphic-flowered species never has a ligule, i.e., a prolongation from one side of the staminal ring. See species of Allantoma, Grias, and Gustavia for images of actinomorphic flowers.
