    In the Lecythidaceae, used to refer to the papery texture of the leaves of some species. This is a very subjective feature but there are definitely some species with papery and others with leathery leaves. One also has to be aware that all species of Lecythidaceae have leaves that are chartceous when they are first flushed but become coriaceous with age. Thus, this feature is applied only to mature leaves.
