Secondary vein
-
Title
Secondary vein
-
Definition
A secondary vein is the second thickest vein in a leaf which arise from the midrib (= primary vein) (Hickey, 1973).
-
Notes
In Lecythidaceae, the number of pairs of secondary veins is useful in classification. This is, however, related to leaf size and there is usually a great deal of overlap in closely related species.
