Title
Self-compatible
-
Definition
Referring to a plant in which pollen from a plant can fertilize eggs of the same plant; i.e., a plant that can be self-fertilized. Compare with self-incompatible.
-
Notes
Although it is usually beleived that self-compatible plants are less able to respond to changes in their environments because self-compatibility, in contrast of self-incompatibility, does not maximize genetic diversity.
