Anterior end of flower
-
Title
Anterior end of flower
-
Definition
The most distal end of the flower but not including inner coils, i.e., the end of a zygomorphic-flowered Lecythidaceae into which a pollinator enters to reap a pollinator reward.
-
Notes
The anterior end of the flower in zygomorphic-flowered Lecythidaceae is where the pollinators enter whereas the posterior end of the flower is blocked by the appendage free ligule. Nevertheless, some pollinators can enter from the sides of the flower unless there is a lateral flange to block entry from that end of the flower. The anterior and posterior ends of the flower are not used to describe actinomorphic-flowered Lecythidaceae.
