Hierba sin tallo; solamente forma una especie de peciolo; hoja recta; su raiz es como el de zanahoria; haz verde oscuro; enves poco palido. Phenology of specimen: Flower.

The Shuar use Sampap with Pirtuyakas (Portulaca oleracea) and chirichiri (Cymbopogon citratus) to treat liver and heart ailments, rheumatism, and fever (Broseghini and Frucci 1986). THe Quichua and Cofan employ culantro as a culinary herb (Pinkley 1973, Bennett and Alarcon, ms).
