Species Description - Erect, branching, glandular-pubescent annual to 12 dm; lvs lanceolate; ocreae spreading-hirsute and bristly-fringed; infl loosely branched; peduncles stipitate-glandular; racemes cylindric, drooping, 3–6 cm; perianth pink or rose, 2.5–3 mm; stamens 5(–8); achenes black, smooth and shining, ovoid or commonly obovoid, 1.8–2.4 × 1.5–2 mm, thickly biconvex. Moist or wet ground, fields, roadsides, and meadows; Me. to Wis. (and reputedly Minn.), s. to Del., Ind., and Ill. (Persicaria c.)
