    Species Description - Branching perennial from a white root, ascending, or decumbent at base, 2–7 dm; lvs flat, glaucous, narrowly lanceolate, acute to long-cuneate at base; infl 1–2 dm, with numerous widely divergent branches; pedicels 2–4 mm, jointed just above the base; valves broadly ovate, 3–4 × 2–3 mm, obtuse, broadly truncate at base, the margins scarcely projecting; grains 3, turgid, nearly as long as the valves and more than half as wide; 2n=20. Sandy or rocky beaches and coastal swamps; Nf. and Que. to L.I. Appears to intergrade with no. 13 [Rumex salicifolius Weinm.].
